Elizabeth wrote her first “book” in second grade, and realized then and there she wanted to be an author. She was the class scribbler through grade school, writing stories “starring” her friends and family. She finished her first historical novel at fifteen.

Her first published historical romance, a story of star-crossed lovers during the War of 1812 was released in 1986. That book, LOVE, HONOR AND BETRAY, went on to win a Waldenbook Award as that year's Best-selling Book by a New Author. Since then, she’s written one series romance and ten historical romances as Elizabeth Kary and Elizabeth Grayson. Most of those books are stories of love and adventure set against a backdrop of real historical events. In writing them, Kary/Grayson garnered a number of awards including a Career Achievement Award from “Romantic Times Book Club” for historical novels set in America. She has twice made the honors list for the Willa Cather Literary Award and has also been named as a RITA finalist.

Her most recent work is A SIMPLE GIFT, a woman’s fiction novel published under the name Karyn Witmer. She, her husband, and their cat are happily mid-coastal – spending part time in the heartland and the rest at the beach.
